How Much Do Chemical Peels Cost in Indianapolis, Indiana?

Benefits of a Chemical Peel

The results of chemical peels are beneficial for almost anyone. They are excellent rejuvenation treatments that may require several procedures but can help you achieve the results that you want by eliminating:

      • Acne scars
      • Blemishes, scars or spots
      • Cracking or flaking skin
      • Fine lines
      • Pre-cancerous fibrous tissue
      • Sun damage and spots
      • Uneven skin pigmentation
      • Wrinkles

Is A Chemical Peel Right for Me?

A chemical peel could be ideal for you if you want to reduce the appearance of skin conditions, such as acne scars, dull or rough skin, fine lines or sun spots. Chemical peels are generally performed on facial skin but they can also be performed on your hands, neck or other areas of your body. They are approved for adults who are in good health overall, but you should avoid getting a chemical peel if you are taking Accutane or using Retin-A.

What Types Of Chemical Peel Solutions Are There?

There are numerous chemical peel solutions available on the market and each of them vary in composition and strength. Alpha hydroxy acid, phenol, or carbolic acid, and trichloroacetic acid are a few of the chemical formulas used. Some of them only remove the top-most layer of your skin, but others go further into the skin. Although they have a bigger impact on your appearance, stronger chemical peels are considered more invasive and you will spend more time recovering from one.

SkinMedica® Peels

The line of chemical peels from SkinMedica® focus on and treat dermal flaws that are noticeable and often the result of acne, aging and sun exposure, including fine lines, hyperpigmentation, uneven skin texture and tone and wrinkles. SkinMedica® offers a range of distinctive products that vary in strength. Learn more about each one below.

Illuminize Peel®

The Illuminize Peel® may be the right option for you if you want to try the effects of a chemical peel and are getting the treatment for the first time. This gentle formula addresses and treats mild dermal blemishes to achieve luminous, radiant skin. It requires virtually no down-time for recovery. Patients generally like this treatment because they can see the results almost immediately and it is delicate on their skin. You can schedule an appointment for the Illuminize Peel® every two or three weeks.

Vitalize Peel®

Healthy men and women who have mild to moderate blemishes on the surface of their skin are the ideal candidates for the Vitalize Peel®. This chemical peel addresses and treats acne scarring, common lines and wrinkles, irregular texture, mild pigmentation, uneven skin tone and sun spots. A treatment takes about 20 minutes and produces full results within a week. You may need more than one treatment to achieve the results that you desire and each one can be scheduled every three or four weeks.

Rejuvenize Peel®

The Rejuvenize Peel® is ideal for patients who have moderate to severe skin blemishes, such as intense acne scarring and sun damage, moderate to severe pigmentation issues, noticeably irregular skin texture and tone and severe lines and wrinkles. One treatment takes about 20 to 30 minutes to complete, requires about one week of recovery time and produces visible results in about two weeks. You may need several treatments to achieve the results that you want and each one can be repeated every five to six weeks.

How Involved Is the Chemical Peel Procedure?

Chemical peel treatments generally take a total of one hour at Hamilton Facial Plastic Surgery and we will use a local anesthesia. We will thoroughly cleanse your face and then apply the chemical solution to the surface of your skin, at which time you may feel a hot sensation or mild stinging. We will leave the chemical formula on your skin and send you home with skin care instructions.

How Long Is the Recovery After a Chemical Peel?

Your skin will start peeling a few days after receiving your treatment like it is sunburned. This process removes the damaged, older top layer of your skin to reveal healthier, smoother-looking skin underneath. Recovering from a chemical peel will take up to 10 days depending on the strength of your treatment. During recovery, your skin might be slightly red or tender. It could also be sensitive to the sun, so you should apply sunscreen diligently, particularly during the first few weeks.

Post Operative Chemical Peels Instructions

Introduction

The following is a list of general instructions for your care following your peel. Please read them carefully several times as most of your questions should be answered here. Instructions for your care will also be reviewed following your peel. Carefully following these instructions should help you get the best results from your procedure.

After the Peel

Following your chemical peel you should have another adult stay with you the first night. You should plan on remaining within thirty miles from our office for the first night. It is also important for you to keep your head elevated the evening after the peel as well as for the following two weeks. This can be done by either sleeping in a recliner tilted at 45 degrees or sleeping with two pillows underneath your head. Avoid rolling onto your face. Sleeping on your back for the first two weeks helps to ensure this.

Daily Care

  1. Taking 4×4 gauze soaked with cool or tepid tap water; gently go over all resurfaced areas six times a day. The goal with each cleaning is to remove the exfoliating skin and crusting that develops with this. This should be a gentle process with no scrubbing or abrading. If you have pain or develop bleeding you are scrubbing too hard.  Lots of water and frequent cleanings are most important.
  2. Try to get in the shower or bath at least once of not twice a day. Gently massage the peeled areas. This can be counted as one of your 6 daily cleanings.
  3. After each cleaning apply with Q-tips a thick coat of Aquaphor ointment. This should look like icing on a cake. This will provide the moisture your skin very much needs during the healing process.
  4. Following these directions and keeping your skin well lubricated will help quicken the healing process.
  5. By day ten to twelve your skin will be completely resurfaced. At this point you may still use the Aquaphor ointment as needed for moisture. At this point we will coordinate a make up session to review skin care and demonstrate how to camouflage the pink color of your skin.

What to expect

Swelling

Swelling will vary patient-to-patient. Swelling may actually increase the first three to four days before subsiding.  Most of your swelling should resolve over the first two to three weeks. Do expect, however, to have minor fluctuations in the remaining swelling over the course of the next two to three months. Things to do to minimize this swelling include keeping your head elevated as much as possible over the first two to three weeks, avoiding bending over or heavy lifting for the first three weeks, and avoiding prolonged sun exposure for the first three months.

Discoloration

Even after resurfacing, your skin will remain somewhat “pink” for several weeks. This is expected. We will coordinate a make-up session after you are resurfaced to help with camouflage.

Depression

It is not uncommon for patients to go through a period of mild depression after cosmetic surgery. This typically occurs the second week after surgery while some of the swelling and bruising still persist and yet the patient is anxious to see a final result. Realize this is a temporary condition and things will improve. Focus on diligently following the wound care as well as other activities to help divert your mind.

Restrictions

  1. No strenuous exercise for at least two weeks.
  2. No heavy lifting for three weeks.

Finally

The healing time for chemical peels is often less than expected and the results are worth the wait. While most discoloration will fade over the first two to three months, your healing will continue for the entire first year. I will follow you through this entire process, but please be patient.
