One question we often receive prior to dermal fillers is, “Will I bruise?” The answer is more than likely always, “Yes.” The good news is there are ways to help prevent and minimize such unwanted side effects. Prior to dermal fillers you will want to avoid taking prescription medications or over the counter supplements which promote bleeding and bruising. Unless otherwise directed by your treating physician.

Prior to the day of your dermal filler procedure, consider taking a plant based homeopathic over the counter remedy such as Arnica Montana, as directed by the label on the product. This can be started in the days leading up the dermal filler procedure to help prevent and minimize bleeding during the procedure and bruising afterward.

There is a product designed specifically to help decrease downtime post dermal fillers called Ocumend Gel Pads. They work by minimizing bruising when applied directly to the injection sites themselves. Ocumend Gel Pads are offered at Dr. Hamilton’s office and available for use at the completion of your dermal filler procedure, per patient request and at the discretion of your injector.

OcuMend® Gel Pads in Indianapolis, IN

Ocumend’s patented arnica based hydro gel pads are applied topically post dermal filler procedure. They have been found to be clinically proven to reduce pain, swelling and bruising. They contain two plant based ingredients, Arnica and Ledum, which have been used for centuries to help strains, pain, inflammation, wounds, and bruises.

In a double blind placebo controlled bruising study, there was found to be a statistically significant reduction in bruising when an inactive placebo gel pad was compared to those with Ocumend’s Cearna technology. Pictured below, you can see the significant difference in healing between the two when Cearna technology is involved.

Ocumend Gel Pads come in packages of two and are applied immediately at the completion of the dermal filler procedure. These are worn home for the remainder of the day. Then, a new set of two gel pads are exchanged and applied just before bedtime and worn overnight. The first 6 hours post treatment are critical to achieve the most benefit.
