Dermal Fillers and Injectables in Indianapolis, IN

As stated many times before, as we age we lose volume in our skin and face; this includes the lips as well. Each birthday you may notice less than full lips, lip lines and a lack of definition. Research and the mirror tell us that lips lose volume and even the amount of “red” showing. This is the degradation of collagen and elastin and a decrease in moisture levels. Other factors can affect the appearance of the lips are excessive sun exposure, genetics and smoking.

Fillers to Fight Lip Aging

Fillers can help to temporarily correct the signs of aging and produce a “more pouty,” youthful appearing lip. Adding a soft tissue filler to your lip can provide the fullness and replace the volume lost throughout the years, without making it obvious that you had a procedure performed. Fine lines will be filled, some color will be turned up and a fuller lip can be achieved. The longevity of filler depends on product used and your metabolism. Typical filler duration after injection ranges from six to 18 months.

Our Recommended Lip Fillers

Juvederm® Vollure and Restylane® Silk are products used to provide a subtle fullness to restore the volume lost over the years. Juvederm® Ultra and Juvederm® Ultra Plus can be used to create fuller more robust lips. Swelling and fullness are much more apparent with these products but do typically subside after a couple of days.

For fine lines we recommend Juvederm® Vollure or Juvederm® Volbella. These two fillers provide a soft correction of lines without the discoloration or swelling that may occur with some other products.

What Happens at a Lip Appointment?

Appointments can be scheduled with either Dr. Hamilton or one of our experienced nurse injectors. We will meet with you, discuss your medical history, medication history and consult with you on your personal needs and wants. The area to be injected will be numbed with a topical ointment, ice will be utilized to minimize the risk of bruising, and the injection will take place, providing immediate results. Often we will save a small amount of product to be injected later after swelling has resolved allowing re-evaluation of the results (typically two weeks).

It is a good idea to refrain from any blood thinning agents prior to injection as these products tend to increase your risk of bleeding and bruising during the procedure. These products include: Aspirin, Aleve, Ibuprofen, Advil, Naproxen, Vitamins and Fish Oil. Click here for a full list.

All the lip injection products that we use are created from hyaluronic acid, a chemical natural to your skin and your body. In addition, because of this, these products can be reversed if the results are not satisfactory. Risks of lip augmentation include bruising, bleeding, obvious swelling and asymmetry.
