In the last year, Galderma has introduced two new fillers: Restylane Lyft and Restylane Silk. Although they’ve both been used in various forms for years, these products have recently received new attention. Both products are made from hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in your body. This is largely responsible for the youthful smoothness and firmness of skin, but levels tend to fall with age. Although both Restylane Lyft and Restylane Silk are hyaluronic acid fillers, their uses are quite different. Here’s a look at what makes each one special.
Restylane Lyft
Restylane Lyft is simply a rebranding of a previous excellent product, Perlane L. What is different is that it now has an FDA indication for correction of volume loss in the cheeks. As before with Perlane L, it has an FDA indication for correction of the nasolabial folds. Restylane Lyft is the only product of its kind that can be used for both of these issues. It provides correction of both areas for 10- 18 months. As a hyaluronic acid filler, it has a long track record of safety and consistent efficacy as well as reversibility. To minimize discomfort, Restylane Lyft contains an anesthetic called lidocaine. This has been found to dramatically reduce pain both during and after the procedure.
Restylane Lyft offers non-surgical and minimally invasive improvements to the cheeks and nasolabial areas that last for 10 to 18 months. Because it’s a hyaluronic acid filler, it has a long-standing reputation for being safe and consistently effective. If you’re not happy with your results for any reason, it is also reversible.
In clinical trials, researchers found that after two months, over 95 percent of participants were satisfied with their results. Even after 12 months, 73 percent of participants reported satisfaction with the effects.
The Restylane Lyft procedure usually takes 15 to 30 minutes, depending on how many injections are needed. You may experience some mild redness, bruising, tenderness and swelling afterward. These effects should resolve on their own in a couple of days. Adverse effects are possible but very rare. These can include vision disturbances, pain, inflammation, damage to blood vessels, scar tissue development and infection. With that said, downtime is typically minimal.
Restylane Silk
Restylane Silk was approved for release in the United States this past summer. It is the first and only FDA-approved product specifically designed for lip enhancement and the smoothing of wrinkles and lines around the mouth. Studies show that results persist for up to 6 months in over 50% of the patients treated. Its smooth consistency provides a natural feel to the lips with less chance of lumps or bumps. Like other hyaluronic acid fillers, it is well tolerated and reversible. Like Restylane Lyft, Restylane Silk is also formulated with lidocaine.
Restylane Silk offers enhancement to the lips that looks completely natural. Because of its specially designed gel particles, there is almost no risk of lumpiness. As with Restylane Lyft, this product is well-tolerated, highly effective and reversible. The results last as long as six months in more than half of patients.
Clinical studies involving Restylane Silk showed that 77 percent of participants who received the injections had one point of lip volume improvement on a five-point scale eight weeks after the procedure. After six months, 59 percent of participants still enjoyed improved lip volume.
Restylane Silk treatment normally takes 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the number of injections that are necessary. Bruising, swelling, redness and tenderness are common, but should disappear quickly. The risks are the same as with Restylane Lyft, but these are also exceedingly rare. Like Restylane Lyft, downtime is typically minimal.
Am I A Candidate?
Candidates for Restylane Lyft or Restylane Silk should be over the age of 21, in good mental and physical health and have mild to moderate lines, wrinkles and losses in lip and mid-face volume. Neither product should be used in patients who suffer from severe allergies, particularly to gram-positive bacteria or lidocaine.
