What is the recovery like after a Facelift?

Recovery questions about a Facelift is one of the most common questions I hear from patients. I think most expect that they will be out of commission for weeks to months following a plastic surgery process. Fortunately for most patients, this is not the case. A facelift procedure typically takes 2-4 hours depending on if it is a mini facelift or a full face lift requiring extensive facial surgery work. While some discomfort should be expected, the patients skin will feel numb after the procedure and remain so for several weeks. Patients will complain of tightness and pulling, but most do not […]

How long will my facelift last?

This is probably my most common question. A facelift is a major decision for many patients and they want to be reassured that the time, expense and yes risks will be worth it. So here is my answer. It really depends on the patient. Someone in their 50s with excellent skin and good bone structure is going to get a much longer lasting result than an 80 year old with extensive sun damage. In addition, it depends on how someone takes care of themselves after the procedure- a patient who treats her skin poorly, has lots of stress and has ups […]

Kybella vs. Facelift- Which is right for me?

I have had many patients recently coming in asking whether they need a mini-facelift or something non-invasive such as Kybella™. Both have their role and which one is right depends on each patient’s goals and anatomy. Kybella™ is a new product from Allergan, the makers of Botox® and Juvederm®. Kybella™ is the first and only product to be FDA approved to treat sub-mental (under the chin) fat. It is composed of deoxycholic acid, a chemical that dissolves fat and is natural to our body (it is used in the GI tract to help digest fats). Kybella™ is injected over a series of […]

Facelift vs. Mini Facelift: Which is Right for You?

The facelift and the mini facelift are similar procedures that are designed to tighten the facial skin and restore a more youthful look, but there are a number of factors that make them very different in nature. Here is some information to keep in mind when considering either procedure. The Facelift Procedure The facelift is also known as rhytidectomy. It is a surgical procedure designed to reduce the presence of sagging skin and tighten the muscles on the face to create a more youthful appearance. It is a more extensive procedure than the mini facelift procedure. The patient may require general anesthesia and […]

I have jowls, a sagging neck and wrinkles. Is a facelift the best solution?

Question: I feel like I look like my mother! I look tired and old all the time. I have jowls, a sagging neck and wrinkles. Is a facelift the best solution? Answer: It can be alarming to see the signs of aging in ourselves and even more so as we realize it is similar to the more extensive aging we see in our parents. While a facelift may seem like the procedure to correct all aging is it is not. Aging in the eyes is better addressed with a blepharoplasty, aging in the skin with skin care, chemical peels and laser, […]

Natural Looking Facelift

Question: I’d like to get a facelift but it’s very important to me that I look natural afterward. What can I do to ensure this? Answer: With today’s techniques, facelifts should provide a refreshed, lifted look, not a pulled, wind tunnel effect. This is due to the fact that the deep tissues (SMAS and platysma muscles/fascia) are lifted first – this is where the tension is placed. The skin is then allowed to naturally follow rather than be pulled. Using these techniques, a facial plastic surgeon is able to avoid that “stretched” appearance that sometimes occurs with more limited, superficial facelift procedures. I recommend […]

Artiss for Facelifts

I have now been doing using Artiss after my facelifts for about a year and the results have been great. Artiss is a fibrin sealant that is used at the end of the facelift procedure to seal the lifted tissues into place. This precludes the needs for drains the first night. In addition, patients that use Artiss definitely have less swelling and bruising (almost none) and seem to have a quicker recovery. Artiss is great for those patients seeking the benefits of a minilift, necklift or a full facelift and not wanting the downtime. Schedule your consultation by calling 317.859.3810. […]

Many patients I see are concerned that they are too old for a facelift and often that simply is not true.

A facelift is a relatively superficial procedure to lift and tighten facial muscles and skin. While results may relax more as our skin and tissues age, the results can often be more dramatic. And the patients will appreciate some benefit the rests of their lives. We have had patients in their 80’s elect to undergo a facelift and do very well. If they are active, healthy and have good genes there is an excellent chance they will appreciate the benefits for more than a decade. (more…) […]

Dr. Hamilton has long performed combined facelift and CO2 laser resurfacing procedures.

Question: I would like to have a facelift, but also skin rejuvenation. Is this possible? Answer: Dr. Hamilton has long performed combined facelift and CO2 laser resurfacing procedures. Previous studies have shown this can be done safely with often dramatic results. Now with the advent of fractional lasers, these procedures can be done with less downtime and lower risks.
