What is a Neck Lift?
A necklift is a procedure that focuses on lifting the neck. This is typically done from a small incision under the chin and often also involves incisions behind the ear. Often, a platysmaplasty is performed, which effectively rejuvenates the neck by tightening and resuspending the muscles in the neck. This helps to decrease the appearance of “bands” in the neck and sagging skin beneath the jawline for a firmer, more defined jawline and neck. Liposuction may also be performed. Deep neck work may also be performed, such as subplatysmal fat removal, digastic partial removal, and submandibular gland manipulation or removal. Any excess skin may be removed from incisions behind the ears if needed.
Some of the more common concerns addressed with a neck lift include the following:
- Excess fat
- Excess or sagging skin
- Neck folds
- Neck bands
- Turkey wattle appearance
