Halo laser treatments offer a new option in laser skin resurfacing. The Halo laser combines fractional nonablative (1470 nm) and ablative (2940 nm) for quicker healing than with other fractional devices. Patients will notice improvements in skin color (reds and browns) as well as skin texture and fine lines.
Skin will appear more taut with smaller pore sizes.
Treatments are done in the northside office. Patients will arrive an hour prior to treatment for numbing cream. The device combines pulses with both wavelengths at once for a quicker treatment time. During treatment the skin will feel warm and ice packs are applied […]
Sunning at the beach, watching a baseball game and enjoying a boat ride are activities good for our soul, however, not so much for our skin. As the weather starts to warm up and the sun starts to shine it is more important than ever to protect your skin. Although the damage may already exist, there are ways to start protecting yourself and help to minimize advanced signs of photoaging.
#1: Choose the Right Sunscreen
We recommend protecting your skin with a sunscreen of 50 SPF or higher. If your skin begins to burn after 10 minutes in the sun (typical in […]
Reaction™ by Viora is skin tightening at its best – it is a safe, non-invasive, painless solution to reduce cellulite, tighten sagging skin, and contour the face/body. This treatment is ideal for those with mild skin laxity from childbirth, weight loss or age.

Hair loss can occur from a wide variety of causes. The number one cause of hair loss is our genetics – something we cannot change. However, sometimes we can modify how this occurs through medication (think Propecia®).
Other causes of hair loss include trauma, infections and autoimmune responses. One treatable and less recognized cause of hair loss is the medications we take. These can be associated with hair loss and stopping them may help reverse what has occurred.
Medications that Can Lead to Hair Loss
There are several categories of medications that can lead to hair loss. Click here for a complete list. If […]
I am still stunned to get this question after all of these years and the tremendous safety record that Botox Cosmetic has achieved. A month does not go by where someone asks me this question of, “isn’t Botox dangerous?” Here are a few things to keep in mind:
Botox is probably the safest thing that I do. It has almost no downtime, very easy for the patient, and even most serious complication (which is extremely rare) is completely treatable. There has never been reported a serious adverse reaction from Botox Cosmetic used appropriately. The short answer is NO, Botox Cosmetic is not […]
For the subtle reshaping and redefining of lips and facial contours
Juvederm Volbella® is the first FDA approved filler to provide correction of lip wrinkles and provide lip enhancement that lasts up to a year. Like other Juvederm fillers, it is made from hyaluronic acid (HA) providing a smooth long lasting correction with a product that is natural to your body. Volbella® utilizes a lower concentration of HAs allowing it to provide a better correction of difficult to treat fine lines as well as create a softer product for lip enhancement. Studies showed that 98% of people who had Juvederm Volbella® […]
For years I have heard different opinions from my patients regarding Arnica Montana. This herbal supplement has been touted to help minimize bruising and swelling. It can be used in topical or oral forms in a variety of manners.
A new systematic review article (or study of all previous studies) in Dermatologic Surgery looks at the supposed benefits of arnica. They reviewed studies from a variety of field including facial plastic surgery. Then, they combined the results to see if there was any real scientific value. Studies in my field, facial plastic surgery, have shown some potential value, although fairly minimal. […]
Botox® and Juvederm® have long been recognized for their ability to soften lines and wrinkles and restore volume, but do they have any role in improving the look of our skin? Two new studies seem to say yes.
A recent article in the highly respected Journal of Dermatologic Surgery analyzed the effect of hyaluronic acid injections on the skin. As expected, patients were noted to have an improvement in facial rhytids and volume. More surprising, patients also noted an improved appearance of their skin. We have known for some time that hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvederm® attract water, providing a plumping […]
For years we have been using Juvederm Ultra XC for lip augmentation with excellent results. So it is no surprise that it recently received FDA approval for use in the lips and perioral areas in adults over 21. This does, however, confirm for all of us the safety of lip enhancement with Juvederm Ultra XC. In addition, there are other interesting findings that I would not have expected. (more…)

Radiesse (Calcium hydroxlapatite, Merz Aesthetics) received FDA approval for treatment of the hands to correct volume loss. Hands are a common concern with aging and this confirms the benefits and safety of Radiesse injections in rejuvenating the hands. Radiesse is the only filler approved for this purpose.
In an extensive study, Radiesse demonstrated improved appearance of the hands in 75% of treated patients at three months. Side effects were minimal to moderate and resolved within a week- these included temporary swelling, bruising, redness and pain. (more…)
