Is Natural Lip Augmentation Possible in Indianapolis, IN?

When patients come in for a consultation for facial rejuvenation, one of their top concerns is that they want the results to look natural. This is especially important with the lips. Many patients have seen stars or media personalities who have taken their lip injections to the extreme, and this is what most patients think about when they consider a lip enhancement. The reality at Hamilton Facial Plastic Surgery, however, is vastly different from what people see in Hollywood. Most of Dr. Hamilton’s patients want a very subtle enhancement that looks natural. Creating an aesthetically pleasing, slightly fuller lip is possible […]

What is the Best Non-Surgical Alternative to a Facelift in Indianapolis, IN?

While we are still looking for a credible non-surgical alternative to a facelift, there have been several technical advances in the past 5 years that have improved your options. That being said, most patients will need to consider undergoing more than one kind of treatment to get results anywhere near comparable to a facelift. Below we have listed some of the most popular and effective non-surgical facelift alternatives. RF Microneedling Fractional radiofrequency (RF) microneedling is a cutting-edge skin rejuvenation technique that we have previously discussed in our blogs. It involves combining tiny needles (microneedles) with RF energy to tighten and add volume […]

Lip Lines: The 4 best Treatment Options in Indianapolis, IN

Lip lines are one of the most common complaints from women of all ages. These lines, also called “smoker’s lines”, occur even on those who do not smoke (though it does exacerbate the problem). Sun exposure is the primary cause of aging (photoaging). Pursing the lips and drinking through a straw can also cause these age defying lines. When you look in the mirror, if the lines above your upper lip are what you see first, and it “bothers” you, there are a few treatments that can minimize the appearance of these lines. Neuromodulators Botulism toxins (neuromodulators) such as Botox®, Dysport® and Xeomin® […]

Indianapolis Residents: Instantly Banish Dark Circles for Up to 2 Years

Some patients complain about dark circles under their eyes, making them look tired. Another typical complaint is lower eyelid bags. Patients with deep tear trough deformities might feel they look older than their actual age. This is often due to the hollowed region just below the eye known as the tear trough, or nasojugal groove. This area extends from the inner corner of the eye, following a semicircular arc to the palpebromalar groove. Tear trough deformities can be a result of genetics or a true sign of aging. As we age, our fat pads fall or shift downward, creating a […]

Lip Aging 101: Advice from Dr. Mark M. Hamilton

As stated many times before, as we age we lose volume in our skin and face; this includes the lips as well. Each birthday you may notice less than full lips, lip lines and a lack of definition. Research and the mirror tell us that lips lose volume and even the amount of “red” showing. This is the degradation of collagen and elastin and a decrease in moisture levels. Other factors can affect the appearance of the lips are excessive sun exposure, genetics and smoking. Fillers to Fight Lip Aging Fillers can help to temporarily correct the signs of aging and produce […]

Is it Time for a Mid Face Augmentation?

You may look in the mirror and want to change the look of your lower face, maybe you have thought about adding filler to that area? The truth of the matter lies above. As we age we lose volume in our face, collagen and elastin. These are important elements that give our skin its youthful appearance of fullness, hydration and a tighter glow. Research states that we lose 1 tsp. of fat per year after the age of 30 in our face. If you are 60 years old, the math states you have theoretically lost 30 tsp or 6 tbsp. of […]

Isn’t Botox Dangerous?

I am still stunned to get this question after all of these years and the tremendous safety record that Botox Cosmetic has achieved. A month does not go by where someone asks me this question of, “isn’t Botox dangerous?” Here are a few things to keep in mind: Botox is probably the safest thing that I do. It has almost no downtime, very easy for the patient, and even most serious complication (which is extremely rare) is completely treatable. There has never been reported a serious adverse reaction from Botox Cosmetic used appropriately. The short answer is NO, Botox Cosmetic is not […]

Am I Too Old For Cosmetic Surgery?

This is one of the most common questions I get. While this is an understandable concern in someone in their late 80s or 90s, I am surprised how often I get this from patients in their 60s. The truth is, patients at any age are candidates for elective surgery if they meet certain criteria. Recent studies have demonstrated that patients older than 65 (and even over 80) who have cosmetic procedures done have no higher risks of complications than patients who are in their late 30s. This despite that fact that seniors often have a higher risks profile than younger patients. […]

How To Minimize Bruising

One of the most common questions I get is how to minimize bruising with injections, especially the dermal fillers. While it is almost impossible to completely prevent bruising, there are a few things that can be done. Avoiding anything that might thin the blood beforehand is probably most important. This includes obvious things like aspirin and NSAID containing products such as ibuprofen, Advil® and Aleve®. Even more concerning are Coumadin® and Plavix. In addition, many supplements such as fish oil, ginseng and ginkgo biloba can affect bruising. Feel free to contact the office for a full list of potentially blood thinning […]
