Can a deviated septum be fixed during rhinoplasty surgery and how is this achieved?

Question: Can a deviated septum be fixed during rhinoplasty surgery and how is this achieved? Answer: Absolutely- A great time to correct breathing and other functional nose problems is at the same time as rhinoplasty. First off, the surgeon is working in the same area- some of the same incisions may be used. Many facial plastic surgeons use cartilage from the septum anyway during rhinoplasty. Doing so adds little to the procedure or the recovery. Second, if the septoplasty is covered by insurance, this can help defray the cosmetic costs. Rhinoplasty and septoplasty are often combined for many good reasons. Meeting with Dr. […]

After I get injectable fillers in my face, how should I take care of this area afterwards? Do I use antibiotic creams or any special lotions? Do you provide these or do I have to buy them?

The great thing about today’s injectables is the minimal downtime. Dr. Hamilton does recommend that patients apply ice to the treated areas for the first day/evening, but make-up can be applied shortly afterwards. For those who do bruise, we can assist with make-up to help camouflage the areas. With today’s injectable fillers, most patients are back to regular activities the next day with the benefit of their new look! Posted by Mark M. Hamilton M.D. FACS […]

I am having otoplasty to pin back my ears. I understand that I will have a head bandage after the surgery. How long do I have to keep the bandage on? When can I return to my normal exercise routine?

Question: I am having otoplasty to pin back my ears. I understand that I will have a head bandage after the otoplasty surgery. How long do I have to keep the bandage on? When can I return to my normal exercise routine? Answer: Dr. Hamilton does apply a dressing that is worn for the first 24 hours after otoplasty surgery. The next morning this is removed and the all of the post-operative care is reviewed. We ask patients to wear a head band of their choice over the ears as much as possible for the next two weeks – this helps support the new position […]

I will be undergoing rhinoplasty surgery and wonder if there is anything that is put into the nose during the surgery, or kept in the nose afterwards that I could be allergic to? I am allergic to many medical related things, antibiotics and latex, for example.

The days of packing the nose after nasal surgery are fortunately over! With today’s less aggressive and more functional techniquee, bleeding and drainage are far less than in the past. With this, the need to fill the nose with uncomfortable packing has ended. Occasionally, Dr. Hamilton place a very small piece of gauze just inside the nose for the first night. Most patients also have tape and a splint applied to the top of the nose for the first week, but neither of these contain latex. Dr. Hamilton does typically apply bacitracin ointment to the incisions after surgery, so it is […]

Summer is ending and my skin could really use some help. Any advice?

There are a variety of ways to rejuvenate your skin after a long summer. Sun, along with smoking, is your skin’s number one enemy. A good skin care regimen (including sunscreen) is the first step. With the right products and time, some of those signs of summers past can be reversed. Microdermabrasion and PPX light treatments both can help speed the renewal process along with a minimum of downtime. For those looking for a more dramatic change, chemical peels and CO2 laser offer  powerful ways to make a more dramatic difference, but require several weeks of downtime. The best way […]

How much Botox Will I Need?

Many patients ask us this question and it really depends on the patient and their aesthetic goals. Most patients just would like to soften their expression, especially if they are heavy “frowners”. For most patients, 25 units of Botox will relax this frown lines (vertical lines between the brows). Others have deep crows feet ( lines around the corners of the mouth) with expression and depending on the patient anywhere from 10 to 20 units can be used here. Finally forehead lines respond well to Botox and this typically requires 10-15 units. Brow lifting can be achieved with a combination of […]
