Dermapen® in Indianapolis, IN

The Dermapen®, also known as a needle facelift, is a mildly invasive treatment designed to improve the look of loose skin, fine lines, deep creases, hyperpigmentation and scarring. Using a micro-needling technique, the Dermapen® naturally promotes an increase in collagen and elastin production. The skin essentially heals itself, revealing a youthful, refreshed appearance. Located in Carmel and Greenwood, Hamilton Facial Plastic Surgery, led by double board-certified facial plastic surgeon Mark M. Hamilton, MD, FACS, offers the Dermapen® for men and women who live in and around Indianapolis, IN.

What is Micro-needling?

Micro-needling refers to the use of small needles to puncture the skin with the intent to stimulate wound healing. The theory behind micro-needling has been around for decades. Over the years, micro-needling has become safer and increasingly efficient for patients of all types. Primarily, micro-needling is used to attain smooth, healthy looking skin.

What is the Dermapen®?

Dermapen® is a fractional micro-needing device designed to tighten skin, reduce wrinkles, minimize pore size and improve the look of acne scarring. A tiny, disposable, spring-loaded needle tip automatically vibrates from the Dermapen®, applying light punctures to the target area. The skin recognizes the injury and stimulates collagen. As the skin barrier is broken, topical agents are also easier absorbed, increasing their effectiveness.

Benefits of a Dermapen® Treatment

  • Skin tightening and rejuvenation.
  • Eliminates stretch marks.
  • Decreases large pores.
  • Improves the appearance of keloid, acne and surgical scars.
  • Benefits the signs of alopecia.

The Dermapen® Treatment

To begin the Dermapen® treatment, the skin will be cleaned and a topical anesthetic will be applied for 15 to 20 minutes. Next, the aesthetician will gently place the small Dermapen® applicator on the skin in the predetermined target area. Through a fast ‘stamping’ motion, the Dermapen® will administer small punctures to the skin. The aesthetician will slowly move the hand piece along the intended areas. A Dermapen® treatment will normally take only a few minutes to complete.

Dermapen® Recovery

Detailed homecare instructions will be provided at the appointment. Little downtime is required after a Dermapen® treatment. Mild redness and a tight feeling can be expected for the first one to three days after treatment. Patients are free to return to work, school and all normal activities that same afternoon. Patients should not wear makeup for the first 12 hours after a Dermapen® treatment. After two to three days, your normal skin care regimen can be resumed. Prolonged sun exposure should be avoided for the first 10 days.

Who is a Good Candidate for the Dermapen® Treatment?

Anyone frustrated with scarring, large pores or the early signs of aging may make an excellent candidate for a Dermapen® treatment. Because the procedure is mildly invasive and causes no significant damage to the skin, the treatment is safe for most patients. However, those with an active skin infection or who are pregnant may be asked to postpone their treatment. At the consultation appointment, our licensed aesthetician will review each patient’s unique situation and determine if a Dermapen® treatment is the right fit.

Is a Dermapen® treatment painful?

Depending on the area being treated, a Dermapen® procedure may cause a mild pain or pinch. A topical anesthetic is normally applied 15 to 20 minutes before the procedure to reduce any discomfort.

Will I need more than one Dermapen® treatment?

Yes, most areas will require between four and six Dermapen® treatments, all spaced about three weeks apart.

How Much Does Dermapen® Treatment Cost in Indianapolis?

While patients often see visible results following the very first session, a series of four to six treatments is recommended, depending on your aesthetic goals. Financing is available, and we accept cash, checks, and major credit cards.
