Dramatic Rejuvenation Options
Multiple possibilities exist for dramatic rejuvenation with TCA chemical peels, fractional therapy (Fraxel), and Carbon Dioxide (CO2) laser treatments. The plastic surgery world has rediscovered the CO2 laser because of its proven results over time. Recent articles in the Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery have only reinforced its position as the gold standard. Dr. Hamilton has always been an advocate for the CO2 laser and both published and presented on its use. The CO2 laser has and continues to be for me the
most effective way to safely provide dramatic skin rejuvenation
The CO2 laser removes the top layers of skin to rid the skin of sun damage. Resurfaced skin both looks and feels like new skin with a more uniform color and smooth texture. In addition, the laser actually heats deeper tissues, providing a tightening effect. This heat combined with resurfacing also helps to remove fine lines and wrinkles.

One recent patient of ours was Gretchen C. She leads an active life style and works as a physician’s assistant. Years of sun damage, much of it from growing up in southern California, had taken its toll. Gretchen began to notice deepening of lines around the mouth and on the upper lip. Her skin had developed uneven pigmentation as well as brown spots. She also noticed the texture of her skin had become more rough.
Gretchen underwent the CO2 laser to address this. She also had a brow lift to rejuvenate her eyes as well as Juvéderm to augment her lips.
It was amazing to see how the brow lift, smoother skin and fuller lips made a difference in my appearance, said Gretchen. Plus I can see clearly now and have lips that can whistle! she exclaimed playfully.
Gretchen did have some downtime-her skin went through a period of exfoliation for a little over a week. It was 10 days before she could wear make up and get back to work. Also Gretchen knew she would have some pinkness to the skin for 8-12 weeks and could not be in the sun during this time. For her, it was all worth the wait.
Gretchen stated, I’m very happy with the results. The doctor and the front office staff did a great job of preparing me for what to expect, and everything Dr. Hamilton told me came true!
The CO2 laser is not for everyone. It does often result in a general lightening of the skin. Those with darker skin have to be particularly careful. Dr. Hamilton also recommends that the CO2 laser be only for those who are done with the sun. This is not for young moms who are still spending lots of time by the pool with the kids.

RELAXED EXPRESSIONS™ DEVICE MAY PROVIDE RADICAL NEW WAY TO TREAT FROWN LINES.
Dr. Hamilton has been selected to participate in the Alpha study group for a new device that relaxes frown lines.
Relaxed Expressions is a new FDA approved device that is being studied specifically as a frown line treatment like Botox Cosmetic. The device is a radiofrequency device that relaxes muscles, diminishing frown lines and providing a slight brow lift. Unlike Botox Cosmetic, results are expected to last a year or more.
Dr. Hamilton will be in San Francisco in October to meet with the company and the developer, and discuss testing the device. Look for upcoming details soon.

Tri-Luma
One new product available at our office is Tri-Luma. Tri-Luma is specifically designed to gradually remove the signs of sun damage, especially hyperpigmentation. It contains three proven products in one formulation—tretinoin (found in retin A), hydroquinone, and fluocinolone acetonide. This combination has been proven effective for the treatment of melasma (brown patches seen on the face), and for the removal of other signs of sun damage.
Photopneumatic Therapy (PPx)
A great and easy way to get started on your process of skin rejuvenation is Photopneumatic Therapy (PPx).
