When a new spa treatment catches on, it sometimes turns out to be a simple fad or trend. That is not the case, however for the Limelight Facial, a procedure that has certainly earned its place as a popular and effective treatment. What makes the Limelight Facial any different from the traditional facial treatments that have been around for years?

All About Traditional Facials

In essence, a facial is a spa treatment designed for the face. This seems to be an obvious concept, but most prospective patients don’t understand what happens during the treatment. Traditional facials tend to be standardized across most spas and clinics, with slight differences in the products used. They should only be performed by a licensed aesthetician in order to be both safe and effective.

The traditional facial is comprised of seven basic steps: cleansing, analysis, exfoliation, extraction, massage, mask, and moisturizing.

Throughout the steps, the aesthetician will provide a deep and effective cleaning of the skin, addressing concerns like acne, clogged pores, dryness or oiliness, flaky or scaly skin, and buildup of dead skin cells. Although many beneficial steps are made to improve the health and appearance of your skin, the facial treatment is also meant to be a relaxing spa treatment. Under the guidance of a trained aesthetician, a facial can deliver noticeable results.

All About Limelight Facials

Although it is called a facial, this procedure varies drastically from what you might expect. While still working toward improvements in the appearance of the skin, the Limelight Facial takes a different and revolutionary approach to skin rejuvenation. It focuses on making improvements to skin tone, fine lines, and surface imperfections. It can also be used on any part of the face, neck, and upper part of a woman’s torso to correct skin redness, tiny visible veins, and brown spots. Even the most difficult to resolve skin concerns have shown noticeable improvements following a Limelight Facial procedure.

So how does this new and different approach really work? The Limelight Facial is performed using a device to deliver a pulse of light to the treatment area. Patients may experience only a mild pinching or stinging sensation, but a cooling gel will be applied to minimize any discomfort. The sensations are mild enough to warrant anesthesia and pain medication unnecessary for most patients. Most Limelight treatments take under an hour, although the duration depends on the extent of your treatment; many patients see the results they desire within one to three Limelight Facial visits. Excessive sun damage and other more severe cases may be needed, but this will be determined based on your individual case as you progress through treatments.

Patients should expect to see some redness, swelling, and darkening of their brown spots immediately after their treatment. These side effects are mild enough that they can be covered with regular makeup while the skin heals and the brown spots begin to flake off. For one to three weeks after a Limelight Facial, your skin will slowly return to a more even tone as the mottling fades. With each successive treatment, your results will continue to improve until your final target complexion has been reached.

Understanding Different Skin Care Treatments

As in the case of traditional and Limelight facials, it’s obvious that two procedures can offer vastly different benefits to patients. When visiting your local spa or clinical skincare office, you may be overwhelmed by the number of procedures with similar-sounding names and many different applications, like the two described here. They all exist for a reason, to make sure that men and women can all receive the treatments needed to correct their unique skin flaws and concerns. For many patients, repeated treatments or combination procedures are an effective way to manage troubling skin issues like recurring acne, rosacea, or hyperpigmentation. To determine the type of treatments that are best suited to your skin, you must begin with a consultation with a licensed skincare RN or aesthetician. Going straight to the experts is the only way to ensure your skin gets what it needs to be healthy and happy all year round.
