Laser Skin Resurfacing in Indianapolis, INDo you want to make all your wrinkles, scars, facial lines, and uneven pigmentation less noticeable? It’s possible with laser skin resurfacing, also known as the laser peel. This procedure restores the skin, making itsmoother and giving it a more youthful look. Choose certain areas to be resurfaced oraddress the entire face.

People Who Consider Laser Resurfacing

To get laser resurfacing, you need to be in good physical health. If you have an olive, brown, or black skin tone, there is a slight risk of unwanted pigmentation change. In addition, if you have extensive skin damage, one laser resurfacing session may not be enough.

The Lasers

There are two different laser skin treatments: the Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing (Active FX) and the traditional ablative CO2 Laser. During laser resurfacing, the laser will move back and forth over the treatment areas until the imperfections are less visible. The length of the procedure will depend on whether the treatment area is small or if it is the entire face.

Laser One: The Active FX

Offering many of the benefits of the traditional ablative CO2 Laser, the Active FX has fewer risks and a quicker recovery period. The procedure is done in Dr. Hamilton’s office. Before the laser resurfacing, numbing cream will be placed on your face. Sometimes dental blocks will be done. Patients say that laser resurfacing causes only slight pain.

With the Active FX, your skin will exfoliate for three to six days. During the recovery period, you will need to apply moisturizer to your face and avoid sun exposure. After a week, you can start wearing make-up again and return to normal activities – as long as you’re careful not to expose your skin to too much sunlight during the first month.

Laser Two: The CO2 Laser

This procedure is usually done under general anesthesia. Using the Ultrapulse Encore from Lumenis, the most recognizable and respected laser system in the field, the top layers of the skin are removed and the deeper layers tightened. The procedure takes about one hour. You can choose to add other procedures such as a facelift, blepharoplasty, or endoscopic forehead lift.

The recovery period for the CO2 Laser lasts from 10 days up to two weeks. Some slight pink coloration may last up to two to three months. During this time, you will have to be careful about exposing your face to sunlight. After two weeks, Dr. Hamilton’s office will provide you with a complimentary make-up session, showing you how to make this transitional period as comfortable as possible. By this point, you will already have noticed a significant improvement in both the look and feel of your skin. If not gone, your wrinkles will have softened. Sun damage or brown spots will have vanished. Your acne scars, or any skin abnormalities for that matter, will have improved.
