What is a SMAS facelift?

Posted April 28, 2012 12:39 pm by Dr. Mark M. Hamilton, M.D., FACS in Facelift

Question:
What is a SMAS facelift?

Answer:
A facelift provides lifting and tightening to the skin of the lower face and neck. A major part of creating a natural and long lasting result is tightening the deeper muscle layers of the face. The SMAS (Superficial MuscluoAponeurotic System) is this deeper layer as well as its investing fascia. Lifting and tightening this layer is critical to a well done facelift.

Finding out if a facelift is right for you as well as which type begins with a consultation with a board certified facial plastic surgeon.

I have redness from rosacea and would like to know if microdermabrasion can help me?

Posted April 25, 2012 12:00 pm by Dr. Mark M. Hamilton, M.D., FACS in Microdermabrasion,Skin Care

Question:
I have some minor redness from rosacea and a few broken blood vessels. Can Microdermabrasion improve this?

Answer:
Microdermabrasion is not indicated for treating rosacea and broken blood vessles. Microdermabrasion exfoliates and smoothes the skin. IPL would be the best treatment solution, this procedure is a light therapy targeting blood vessles and discoloration.
