After I get injectable fillers in my face, how should I take care of this area afterwards? Do I use antibiotic creams or any special lotions? Do you provide these or do I have to buy them?

The great thing about today’s injectables is the minimal downtime. Dr. Hamilton does recommend that patients apply ice to the treated areas for the first day/evening, but make-up can be applied shortly afterwards. For those who do bruise, we can assist with make-up to help camouflage the areas. With today’s injectable fillers, most patients are back to regular activities the next day with the benefit of their new look!

I am having otoplasty to pin back my ears. I understand that I will have a head bandage after the surgery. How long do I have to keep the bandage on? When can I return to my normal exercise routine?

Question:
I am having otoplasty to pin back my ears. I understand that I will have a head bandage after the otoplasty surgery. How long do I have to keep the bandage on? When can I return to my normal exercise routine?

Answer:
Dr. Hamilton does apply a dressing that is worn for the first 24 hours afterotoplastysurgery. The next morning this is removed and the all of the post-operative care is reviewed. We ask patients to wear a head band of their choice over the ears as much as possible for the next two weeks – this helps support the new position of the ears. Like most cosmetic procedures, Dr. Hamilton recommends that patients avoid strenuous activities for two weeks and heavy lifting for three weeks.

I will be undergoing rhinoplasty surgery and wonder if there is anything that is put into the nose during the surgery, or kept in the nose afterwards that I could be allergic to? I am allergic to many medical related things, antibiotics and latex, for example.

The days of packing the nose after nasal surgery are fortunately over! With today’s less aggressive and more functional techniquee, bleeding and drainage are far less than in the past. With this, the need to fill the nose with uncomfortable packing has ended.

Occasionally, Dr. Hamilton place a very small piece of gauze just inside the nose for the first night. Most patients also have tape and a splint applied to the top of the nose for the first week, but neither of these contain latex. Dr. Hamilton does typically apply bacitracin ointment to the incisions after surgery, so it is important to let us know if you are allergic to that as there are alternatives.
