A facelift is a relatively superficial procedure to lift and tighten facial muscles and skin. While results may relax more as our skin and tissues age, the results can often be more dramatic. And the patients will appreciate some benefit the rests of their lives. We have had patients in their 80′s elect to undergo a facelift and do very well. If they are active, healthy and have good genes there is an excellent chance they will appreciate the benefits for more than a decade.
The one issue with patients 70 and over (or any age for that matter) is their health. Patients must be able to undergo a surgical procedure and the anesthesia required. With patients 70 and older we do request a clearance from their primary care doctor as well as possible specialist clearance as well. It is an elective procedure and it is critical not to take undue risks.
For patients 70 and over a facelift can be a dramatic cosmetic enhancement and a real morale boost. For those looking to live their life to the fullest it can be a life enhancing experience.
