How much Botox Will I Need?

Many patients ask us this question and it really depends on the patient and their aesthetic goals.

Most patients just would like to soften their expression, especially if they are heavy “frowners”. For most patients, 25 units of Botox will relax this frown lines (vertical lines between the brows). Others have deep crows feet ( lines around the corners of the mouth) with expression and depending on the patient anywhere from 10 to 20 units can be used here. Finally forehead lines respond well to Botox and this typically requires 10-15 units. Brow lifting can be achieved with a combination of these and a few units in the lateral eyebrow.

Botox is an art and patient doctor discussion is critical. Dr. Hamilton individualizes each treatment and stresses follow up to achieve the best results.

We have a very high return rate because of our emphasis on comfortable treatments with minimal bruising and great results.

How much Botox you need depends on what you are trying to correct and your anatomy. The number one area for Botox is frown lines- those vertical lines between your eyebrows that make you look angry. Most patients will require 25 units in this area to get the best correction, but some may require 20 or less and some( especially heavy frowners) may require more.

Other areas and their typical amounts include crows feet (10-15 units) , forehead lines (10 units), bunny lines- lines on nose when you squint (5 units),  lip enhancement (5-10 units). Brow elevation can be achieved with a variety of injections and amounts, but typically is done with about 30 units by relaxing the frown lines as well as treating the lateral brow.

As for bruising, we hope you don't!  And fortunately most do not. Dr. Hamilton takes extra time as well as uses ice which also provides a little numbing. Occasionally bruising does occur, but it almost always quickly resolves and easily covered with make-up.
